Lou Reed Live at Lollapalooza 2009 is the official DVD of Lou Reed’s set at Lollapalooza in Grant Park, Chicago, on Sunday, August 9, 2009, released July 19, 2011. The band was Mike Rathke and Steve Hunter on guitars, Kevin Hearn on keyboards, Rob Wasserman on bass, Tony “Thunder” Smith on drums, Ulrich Krieger on saxophone, and me on electronics and Continuum.
Reed, on the other hand, brought the weekend’s most audacious music, a set laced with bile, violence and feedback, never more so than when he threaded a raging “Paranoia Key of E” into a pile-driving “Waiting for the Man.”

The set
Day three, to a capacity crowd of forty thousand. Rolling Stone noted Reed ran fifteen minutes over. Inside the set, Metal Machine Trio played a ten minute noise interlude between the songs. The date is on Sightings.
The interlude
Ulrich Krieger, writing after Reed died: At 2009’s Lollapalooza MM3 played a ten minute noise interlude between well known Reed songs to the frantic cheers of a large audience.
And of the tours that followed: On subsequent tours with his newly revised rock group, including Sarth and me, he would play MM3 recordings before and after shows.
