We intend to put out different types of my music - from industrial to meditative to songs and all subway stops in between. - CREATE!" --Lou Reed In 2008 Lou called me up and told me he was doing a free improvised noise gig at The REDCAT in LA with saxophonist and composer Ulrich Krieger. Ulrich had made a real impression on Lou by arranging Metal Machine Music for orchestral ensemble ... a rare and some might say unnatural feat that should be impossible. I had done a tour with Lou's rock band, processing and sampling the various instruments on stage, and we had talked talked about doing some duet shows performing the meditation music we'd been working on. That stuff was drones and melodies combined with pure noise, so this seemed only natural. Ulrich had billed us as "Unclassified" because obviously the group had no name yet. The shows in LA were great, they sold out right away and we added a second set on one of the nights. We recorded the sets with a matched pair of Schoeps and a stereo Royer, and released them as is, pure ambient microphone tracks with no direct lines. That stuff was released as a double live CD, "Creation of the Universe." This was the start of the group which was eventually renamed The Metal Machine Trio, and we went on to play in Europe, Brazil, and Australia. We called the music "Deep Noise" because that's what it was. At times though, it felt almost like improvised classical music, or something which didn't have a name. ### Latest: #### [Metal Machine Trio in 10.1 Ambisonic Installation](/metal-machine-trio-in-10-1-ambisonic-installation/) Jan. 16, 2012 Filed Under: [Intrigue](/category/intrigue/), [Lou Reed](/category/conspirators/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Trio](/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/), [Ulrich Krieger](/category/conspirators/ulrich-krieger/) Tags: [10.1](/tag/10-1/), [ambisonic](/tag/ambisonic/), [arup soundlab](/tag/arup-soundlab/), [continuum fingerboard](/tag/continuum-fingerboard/), [csulb](/tag/csulb/), [kyma](/tag/kyma/), [live processing](/tag/live-processing/), [Lou Reed](/tag/lou-reed/), [metal machine trio](/tag/metal-machine-trio-2/), [MM3](/tag/mm3/), [Ulrich Krieger](/tag/ulrich-krieger/) #### [Some photos from the Blender Theater](/some-photos-from-the-blender-theater/) Dec. 6, 2011 Filed Under: [Lou Reed](/category/conspirators/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Trio](/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/), [photo](/category/visuals/photo/), [Ulrich Krieger](/category/conspirators/ulrich-krieger/) #### [Photos of Noise Night, Sydney](/photos-of-noise-night-sydney/) Jul. 10, 2010 Filed Under: [Intrigue](/category/intrigue/), [Lou Reed](/category/conspirators/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Trio](/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/), [photo](/category/visuals/photo/), [Sarth Solo Projects](/category/conspiracies/sarth-solo-projects/) Tags: [Bardo Pond](/tag/bardo-pond/), [Lou Reed](/tag/lou-reed/), [Marc Ribot](/tag/marc-ribot/), [Melt Banana](/tag/melt-banana/), [MWMCG](/tag/mwmcg/), [Night Terrors](/tag/night-terrors/), [Noise](/tag/noise/), [Opera House](/tag/opera-house/), [Rice Corpse](/tag/rice-corpse/), [Sydney](/tag/sydney/), [Zond](/tag/zond/) #### [Cool review comparing Creation of The Universe to Metal Machine Music](/cool-review-comparing-creation-of-the-universe-to-metal-machine-music/) Jul. 7, 2010 Filed Under: [Lou Reed](/category/conspirators/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Trio](/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/), [Press Clips](/category/intrigue/press-clips/), [Ulrich Krieger](/category/conspirators/ulrich-krieger/) Tags: [Creation of the Universe](/tag/creation-of-the-universe/), [Lou Reed](/tag/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Music](/tag/metal-machine-music/), [MM3](/tag/mm3/), [Sarth](/tag/sarth/), [Ulrich Krieger](/tag/ulrich-krieger/) #### [mm3 in brussels, video from youtube](/mm3-in-brussels-video-from-youtube/) Jul. 1, 2010 Filed Under: [Intrigue](/category/intrigue/), [Lou Reed](/category/conspirators/lou-reed/), [Metal Machine Trio](/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/), [Ulrich Krieger](/category/conspirators/ulrich-krieger/), [Video](/category/visuals/video/) ### Discography: - [Metal Machine Trio “The Creation of the Universe”](/metal-machine-trio-the-creation-of-the-universe/) ### Videos: - [mm3 in brussels, video from youtube](/mm3-in-brussels-video-from-youtube/) - [Video: Metal Machine Trio infiltrates Lucibel Crater](/video-metal-machine-trio-infiltrates-lucibel-crater/) ### Links: - [Metal Machine Trio](https://web.archive.org/web/20100510123208/http://www.loureed.com/metalmachinetrio/) - [Anticipation of our noise madness in Sydney](http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/music/the-art-of-noise-20100507-uiwi.html) Anticipation of our noise madness in Sydney Reproduced word for word from the Internet Archive’s copy of [October 30, 2010](https://web.archive.org/web/20101030011406/http://www.sarth.net/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/) and the Internet Archive’s copy of [September 9, 2014](https://web.archive.org/web/20140909153459/http://www.sarth.net/category/conspiracies/metal-machine-trio/).
